Avocado Wood Turnings by Rick Frazier

Avacado is a good wood for woodworking, and the tree produces buttery fruits. Most of the Avocado available in Hawaii is from trees that must be cut down because of disease or encroaching building. The wood is of medium brown to light pinkish color, with a closed grain pattern.

Avocado can be particularly beautiful after it spalts, which enhances the grain and adds interesting shapes and coloration. It also exhibits wavy or curly grain, and in rare instances the eye shapes of a burl.
